Call for Applications: Summer School on Common Sense Economics

Introduction and Objectives

The Summer School on Common Sense Economics, part of the Economic Literacy Program of Liberal Alternative Institute, aims to equip students from diverse backgrounds with a solid understanding of fundamental economic principles and their real-world applications. Hosted by the Southeast European University in Tetovo, this program is an excellent opportunity for students to deepen their economic knowledge through interactive and engaging sessions.

Eligibility

The Summer School is open to all students who meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolment: Currently enrolled in BA program at any university in North Macedonia.
  • Department: Open to students from all departments.
  • Year of Study: Open to students from any year of study.
  • Language Proficiency: Good knowledge of English is required, as it is the language of instruction.

  1. Proof of University Registration: A document confirming your current enrolment at a university in North Macedonia.
  2. Academic Transcript: A record of your academic performance to date.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed, and 25 students will be selected and notified by August 7, 2024. Selection will be based on the applicant’s academic performance, motivation, and relevance of the program to their future goals.

Costs and Funding

Accommodation and meals for all participants will be provided by the organizers. A few transportation scholarships will be available for students in need; please indicate your need for this support in the application form.

Q: What level of English proficiency is required?
A: Students should have a good command of English to follow lectures and participate in discussions.

Q: Are travel expenses covered?
A: Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses. However, a few transportation scholarships are available for students in need. Please mention this need in the application form.

A: Yes, participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the program and the exam.

Q: How many students will be selected?
A: We will select 25 students from different universities in North Macedonia to ensure a conducive learning environment.

Q: Can students from other levels of education  apply?
A: No, this program is only open to students currently enrolled at universities for their BA studies.

Q: What should be included in the motivation letter?
A: The motivation letter should explain your interest in economics, how the Summer School aligns with your academic and career goals, what you hope to gain from participating, and if applicable, your need for transportation support.

Q: What is the format of the final exam?
A: The final exam will consist of multiple-choice questions and short essay responses based on the lectures and discussions held during the Summer School.

Q: What are the accommodation arrangements?
A: Participants will be accommodated in dormitories on the Southeast European University Tetovo Campus. Meals will be provided in the university dining facilities.

Q: Can I apply if I have other commitments during some of the dates?
A: Full attendance is required to receive ECTS credits and the certificate of participation. Please ensure you are available for the entire duration of the program.

Q: How will group work be organized?
A: Group work will be organized by the program coordinators, and students will be assigned to groups to ensure a diverse mix of participants from different academic backgrounds.
